About the Book
An amazing, 23-year baseball odyssey, from one of the greatest hitters to play the game.

When the season was on the line, Carl Yastrzemski made history. No New Englander who lived through the summer of 1967 will ever forget Yaz single-handedly powering the also-ran Red Sox through the tightest race ever – winning the American League pennant on the final day of the season. Leading the league in batting average, home runs and RBIs that year, Yaz became the last player to win baseball’s Triple Crown. In 1975, the 37 year-old Yastrzemski’s clutch hitting and fielding turned back the hands of time and drove the Sox past the Oakland A’s for another pennant.

Now Yaz tells the very personal story of one of the most prolific and eventful careers in baseball. He talks about the single-minded focus, discipline and hard work – the drive to be the best that defined him as one of the greatest hitters in the game over a record 23 years. Taking us back to his humble roots on a Depression-era potato farm, he shares the dream that took him so far.

From Ted Williams to Carlton Fisk, from the “Impossible Dream” Season to the Greatest Game Ever Played, Yastrzemski’s story is filled with the greatest players and most exciting moments in baseball.

About the Author
Slugger Carl Yastrzemski succeeded Ted Williams as left fielder for the Boston Red Sox. He led his team to the American League pennant in 1967, when he was also voted Most Valuable Player. At the age of 37, he drove the Sox to the World Series again in 1976, Yastrzemski was the first AL player to reach 3000 hits and 400 home runs and the last player to win baseball’s fabled Triple Crown. In his 23 years with Boston, “Yaz” established numerous AL endurance records, including most games, most at-bats and most consecutive seasons. He retired in 1983 and was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
